26 year old, TB
gelding. Bay, 15.1 hands. Maestro is healthy and sound for light
riding. He evented and fox hunted prior to the donor purchasing him.
She has owned him for 12 years and has used him for Dressage. With her,
he successfully competed through 2nd level and is a low level
schoolmaster.
His donor says he is a gentleman on the
ground and under saddle. He is good with other horses and is currently
turned out with a mare. He likes people, has good manners, a good
temperament, is confident, smart and is laid back. He respects his
handler's space, leads quietly, is good with other horses and is quiet
in his stall. He ties and cross ties, bathes and clips (except his
ears!), lunges, can be caught in an open field, is good with the vet,
farrier and children.
He is
on a joint supplement and does wear shoes all the way around so he does
need an adopter with access to a good farrier. Due to his age he will
also need a special senior diet and given plenty of time to eat.
Regular dental exams will also be a must!
Best Traits: Maestro is a 'solid
citizen'. He is sweet, loves people, has a great brain and is a
pleasure to work with.
Worst Traits: He stumbles. (Vets
have x-rayed and tested Maestro for the stumbling. There is nothing
medically wrong with him and the vet suggested keeping his feet trimmed
shorter. It will be imperative that Maestro be adopted by someone with
access to a good farrier who understands older horses and
Thoroughbreds!)
Maestro is suitable for: Trail riding
at a walk, lead line with children or therapeutic work.
